SPOKANE, Wash. – After allowing a pair of comebacks in the last two weeks, the Spokane Women’s Hockey White team nearly watched a third straight game slip away late on Friday night. This time, however, SWH White held on and they found an empty net goal to get back on track with a win.
Jen netted her first goal into the empty net in the waning seconds of the third period, capping off SWH White’s (3-1-1) 4-2 win over SWH Red (1-3-1) on Friday evening.
For the second straight week, the first period elapsed scoreless, but in the second period, SWH White got tallies from a pair of veterans of the league. Mel V netted her third goal of the season on a pass from Kaitlin eight minutes into the second frame, and Amy added her second of the season late in the stanza to give White a 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Early in the third, Kelsey scored her first of the season with Marina and Amy assisting, and SWH White stretched their lead to 3-0, and SWH White was in full control.
Midway through the third, though, SWH Red found their offense, and it was spearheaded by Addie. The speedy center tallied two goals for the second time in the young season, and with eight minutes left, suddenly SWH Red was back within a single goal. With the two goals, Addie assumed the league lead with four goals on the season as well.
SWH Red continued to apply pressure in the final minutes of the game, but Kenny was equal to the task in goal for SWH White. Kenny made six saves in the final frame, and he made 23 saves in the game, and with the final seconds ticking down, Jen got the puck just inside the SWH Red blue line and slid it into the empty net to cap the 4-2 win for SWH White.
Kenny earned the win in goal for the first time in 2025, making 21 saves in the contest, and Zak (2-2-1) took the loss with three goals against and 20 saves. Amy and Addie each had multi-point efforts in the game.
The teams will be re-shuffled, and they will play their last of six straight weeks to open the season on Friday, October 24, at 8:15 p.m. at Eagles Ice Arena rink two.
