SPOKANE, Wash. – For the second consecutive week, the Spokane Women’s Hockey Red Team trailed in the final 30 minutes of the game, and for the second consecutive week, they rallied. This time, however, SWH Red had to settle for the tie.
Amy ripped home the game-tying tally with less than four minutes remaining in the game, and the two goaltenders made sure that was the last of the night, as SWH Red (1-2-1) and SWH White (2-1-1) skated to a 3-3 draw at Eagles Ice Arena on Friday night.
Leila gave SWH Red the lead midway through the second period with her first goal of the season, but the lead was short-lived. Ashley scored the first of her two goals of the night to tie things up less than two minutes after the opening tally, and Ashley’s second marker gave SWH White the lead early in the third. Abby S assisted on both of Ashley’s goals.
Midway through the final frame, Laura knotted things up with her third goal of the year, and as the game went late into the period still tied 2-2. With 6:38 to play in the contest, Abby S notched her third point of the night with a go-ahead goal for SWH White, and it looked like that might hold up until the final moments of the night.
With 3:15 to play in the game, Addie picked up a loose puck for SWH Red deep in the defensive zone, and She found Amy breaking through the middle of the ice. Amy raced up the left wing side and ripped a wrister low to the far post to beat Kenny in goal and knot the score at 3-3 with 3:10 to play.
Kenny (0-1-1) and Zak (2-0-1) each allowed three goals in the game, Kenny made 19 saves, and Zak stopped 13 shots. Jessica M, CeCe, Robin, and Addie each had assists in the game, and Abby S had two helpers.
The teams will play their fifth of what will be six straight weeks next Friday, with face-off again at 8:15 on Eagles Ice Arena Rink 2.
