SPOKANE, Wash. – Early on in Friday evening’s contest, things did not look promising for the Spokane Women’s Hockey Red team. Having dropped the first two games of the season, SWH Red trailed 2-1 and it looked like SWH White would improve their season opening winning streak to three.
With less than four minutes to go in the second frame, that all changed.
Kaitlin took a pass from Julia and buried it with 3:12 to play in the middle period, and SWH Red tallied three more goals in the third, as SWH Red (1-2) rallied to take the 5-2 win over SWH White (2-1) to crack the win column for the first time in 2025.
Mel V opened the scoring with her second goal in as many weeks, an unassisted tally with 7:45 left to go in the first period, and SWH White took the early 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the only one in the frame, and at the first intermission, SWH White led 1-0.
Abby B got Red on the board early in the second when she cashed in her first of the season – a goal set up by Robin and Emily – but the tie score was short-lived. Just more than two minutes later, CeCe scored for the second time in 2025, and SWH White led late into the period.
After Kaitlin’s momentum-changing goal, SWH Red dominated the third period. Abby B scored her second of the game to give SWH Red the lead for the first time on the night less than six minutes into the frame, and Addie tallied twice late in the game, as SWH Red pulled away for the 5-2 win.
Robin tallied a pair of assists in the game for SWH Red, making her the third player for the Red Team to have a multi-point night in the game.
Zak (2-0) made 20 saves in earning the win, while Shari (0-1) made her first appearance of the season and made 18 saves in the loss.
The teams will once again be re-shuffled in one week and will hit the ice again at 8:15 on Rink Two at Eagles Ice Arena.
