SPOKANE, Wash. – For the second straight week, the Spokane Women’s Hockey League took to the ice at Eagles Ice Arena on Friday night, and it was SWH White who again emerged victorious. SWH White (2-0) built a 3-0 lead and they got excellent goaltending to cruise in with the 5-2 win over SWH Red (0-2).

SWH White opened the scoring with a pair of goals from the wing positions in the first period. Center MJ took the puck behind the net with just more than nine minutes elapsed in the frame, and she fed a pass out in front that found its way onto Lexi’s stick, and the third-year player buried the opening tally for her first goal of the season. Later in the period, Karin moved in along the right wing boards from her defense position and sent a pass to Robin who also netted her first of the campaign into the open net, and after the opening frame was complete, SWH White held the 2-0 lead.

The SWH White lead grew to 3-0 midway through the second stanza, when MJ again tallied an assist. This time, she took a feed from Jen, circled behind the goal, and whipped a pass to Julia who crashed in from the left point and wired a wrister into the top right corner of the goal.

SWH Red got on the board late in the second frame when veteran talent Mel V battled her way through after tying up a face-off on the offensive right wing side. Mel V picked up the loose puck and she ripped a shot into the corner of the cage to cut the deficit to 3-1, and SWH Red pressed to try and get closer, but Zak in goal made some key saves, and the game headed to the third period with SWH White up 3-1.

Ryan and CeCe combined on a goal with less than eight minutes to go in the contest that pulled SWH Red within one at 3-2, but less than two minutes later, it was Abby for SWH White who restored the two-goal margin with an unassisted tally to make it 4-2.

Emily sealed the game for SWH White in the final minute with a spectacular end-to-end rush that led to a breakaway goal that provided the final margin of 5-2.

Zak (2-0) earned the win in goal, as they made 25 saves in goal, while Kenny (0-2) stopped 23 shots in the loss.

The teams will shuffle again, and SWH will be back in action on Friday night, October 5 at 8:15 on Rink 2 at Eagles Ice Arena.
