SPOKANE, Wash. – With the game tied at two after two periods of play, Abby tallied a goal on the first shift of the third, and Maddy scored twice in the opening minutes of the period to ignite a 4-goal frame as the SWH White team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a 6-2 win over SWH Red at Eagles Ice Arena.

The game winning tally was scored on the first shift of the final frame. Maddy took the puck deep into the right corner and centered a pass to Amy in the slot just outside the left circle. She then found Abby on the back post, and Abby redirected the pass in for the game-winning goal.

That, however, was just the beginning of the big third stanza for SWH White. Maddy tallied an insurance goal at 8:44 of the third when she took a pass from Lexi at the blue line and swung around the SWH Red defense and buried her second tally of the game. Less than six minutes later, Maddy struck again to complete the hat trick.

Maddy opened the scoring on the night at 5:33 of the first when she cashed in a feed from Bridgette to put SWH White up 1-0. SWH Red, though, carried the play for much of the opening stanza, as they out-shot SWH White 12-6 in the first frame. In goal though, Kenny proved equal to the task on each change, and SWH White held the 1-0 lead when the horn sounded to end the period.

Just 2:25 into the middle frame, Laura scored the first of her two goals in the game – both of which drew SWH Red level. She converted a pass from Leila to tie the score at 1-1, with Mel V also picking up an assist on the play. Laura’s second goal came with just under two minutes left in the frame, this time an unassisted tally, and that tied things up headed to the third.

SWH white’s lone second period tally came from a newcomer to the league. Johanna – playing in her first game with SWH, took a feed from Jessica and took a shot from below the right wing circle that deflected past Kenny and gave the rookie her first ever goal with SWH at the 10:33 mark of the period.

Meanwhile in goal, Zak and Kenny shared the duties. The two swapped ends in the middle of the second period as is customary, and it was Zak who backstopped their team to a victory. They made five stops in the third, and a total of 14 saves on 16 shots in the win. Kenny faced significantly more rubber, as he made 17 saves on 22 shots faced.

Mellissa rounded out the scoring when SWH Red pulled the goaltender with under four minutes left. She picked up the puck behind her own goal line and lofted a clearance that traversed the length of the ice and found the back of the yawning cage to complete the scoring and provide the final margin of 6-2.

The SWH Ladies will return to the ice on Friday, September 26 on Rink 2 at Eagles again. The game will begin at 8:15, and admission is free to come out and support the Spokane Women’s Hockey League.
